Well everyone it has been quite a while since I've written on my family blog. Lots has happened, and I am actually revamping, and going to be starting a new family blog soon, so stay tuned. Anyway, I wasn't going to post anything until my new blog was up and running but I felt this was important enough that I needed to do it now.

Many of you know about the new law SB48 which was recently passed which mandates that schools implement a social science curriculum that promotes the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender lifestyle. If you would like to read the law you can go here. The curriculum will be taught beginning in kindergarten, and parents will not have the option to opt their child out.

Well, the new law has been temporarily put on hold due to an effort to launch a referendum to allow voters to repeal the law. Once the Attorney General's Office has prepared a Title and summary for the measure, supporters will have 90 days to gather approximately 500,000 signatures to get the referendum on the ballot.

This law does more than just teach our children to treat others fairly as some would have us believe. I have no problem teaching children to treat everyone with respect, but this law does much more than that. It will essentially put a curriculum in place which will teach our children that these lifestyle choices are to be fully embraced as being right. There is no room for a distinction between treating someone with respect while disagreeing with their lifestyle. If you happen to be a person who believes it is wrong, and don't want your child to be taught that it is an acceptable lifestyle or practice, too bad. You can go here to see exactly how this curriculum will be put into practice, and see what exactly it is they want your child to believe about homosexuality. I encourage you to pay close attention to the first video where their is a group of teachers meeting to discuss how they will implement the program for Gay & Lesbian Pride Day at their school. In this segment a teacher asks if they are now being asked to teach children who come from families who may may believe this lifestyle is wrong to accept it as right. I think you will be shocked. They are not just going to teach your child to treat everyone with respect, they are going to teach your child that they must accept homosexuality as being right.

Now, if you are like me, you are probably wondering what you can do to help stop this from happening at your child's school. Some people propose that you pull your children out of public school, and homeschool them or send them to private school. While I am a definite supporter of homeschooling (as many of you know, up until this year I was a homeschooler myself), and think there are many great private schools out there as well, not all parents have the ability to homeschool or send their children to private school. And while you may have that ability you may want to consider your friends and family who don't. And, to those of you who may use a public charter school to homeschool your children, or have your child in a public charter school on a campus, this law will also apply to you (go here, and pay particular attention to Section 6, the last paragraph). So, what can we, homeschooler's or not, do to help stop this from happening. The most important thing we can do is, of course, pray (thank you to those of you who have been laboring in prayer over this issue already). As I mentioned above there are people already mobilized to get this stopped. If you would like to be notified of when the petition becomes available, so you can sign it you can go here and register. On an end note: I know that there are people out there who will read this that fully believe that there is nothing wrong with homosexuality, and may think this has nothing to do with them. I am asking you to really think about this. Whether you believe homosexuality is right or wrong, do you feel it is right for someone to impose their beliefs upon another? Most people I know (even those who don't agree with my stance on homosexuality) don't believe it's right for someone to impose their belief or lifestyle upon someone else. But that is exactly what is happening here. People who believe there is nothing wrong with homosexuality are asking (actaully they are not asking, they are telling) people who believe it is wrong they must accept it as right, and not only accept it as right, but allow others to teach their children it is right. Think about the things you firmly believe in, and are trying to teach your child. Would you want your school to undermine you, and tell your child they must now believe the opposite of what you are teaching them. Also, think about this, many of our children are graduating from high school without knowing the basics of how to read, write or do simple arithmetic, but we are being told we must invest our time and resources and money on implementing this new law. Yes, a lot of taxpayer money, your money, will be needed to pay for the new textboooks and materials and curriculum that will have to be written and/or bought to comply with the new law.
